A massive explosion occurred in the Dombivli area, near to Mumbai, causing widespread panic on Thursday afternoon. The blast, which was felt within a three-kilometer radius, shook many buildings, causing damage and breaking windows. The source of the explosion was a boiler at a chemical factory in the area.
So far, eight people have died, and 60 have been injured. The injured are being treated at a nearby hospital, while efforts to extinguish the fire are ongoing. Following the incident, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, his son Shrikant Shinde, and other officials visited the site to assess the situation.
The explosion has led to fires in three additional factories, exacerbating the panic among local residents. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, currently in Delhi for Lok Sabha election campaigning, described the incident as tragic. He announced that eight people have been suspended and assured that arrangements for treating the injured are in place, with NDRF and fire brigade teams on standby.
Kalyan DCP Sachin Gunjal reported that the blast occurred around 1 PM at Anudan Chemical Company. The explosion was so intense that it was heard up to three kilometers away. The fire that ensued also engulfed several vehicles parked in the factory lot, leading to chaos as fire brigade personnel worked tirelessly to control the blaze.
