“better chance of getting Bronny”: LeBron James’ Ex-Teammate Fuels Jimmy Butler Trade Rumor, amid Secret Interest

After Pat Riley’s harsh comments about Jimmy Butler, many thought that Jimmy Bulter wouldn’t return to the Miami Heat. However, that doesn’t mean that Butler doesn’t have options. The 35-year-old was responsible for Miami’s legendary run to the NBA finals last season being the 7th seed. Butler is set to earn $48.8 million next season, with a player option for $52.4 million in 2025-26. According to reports, he is seeking a two-year, $113 million max extension from Miami.

But will Pat Riley and his team appear reluctant to meet that price? LeBron James’ former teammate and Heat legend Udonis Haslem thinks so, as he addressed rumors regarding the six-time all-star’s rumored trade. The Los Angeles Lakers were among the teams in the rumor mill looking at Jimmy, to this Haslem says, “[The Lakers] have a better chance of getting Bronny than they do Jimmy [Butler]. … You gotta go through me. I’m standing at the county line.” 

Other than LA, the Philadelphia 76ers are also up for reuniting with Himmy Buckets. In addition to that, there is one more team looking closely at him according to reports, “Along with the 76ers, according to league sources, there are two other teams that have made it known in league circles that they would be willing to trade for Butler and sign him to a max-level contract. Butler turns 35 on Sept. 14.”

What are the options for Jimmy Butler?

Five years ago, the Philadelphia 76ers made a decision they would come to regret. They initiated a sign-and-trade that sent Jimmy Butler to the Miami Heat. Now, the Sixers are considering reigniting their relationship with Butler. Joel Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that the 76ers are closely monitoring Butler’s situation. On Tuesday, he suggested that the team views Butler as a potential alternative to Paul George, who appears to be their primary target this offseason.

With Butler possibly negotiating a new contract with the Miami Heat, a failure to reach an agreement could open the door for the Sixers. Pompey indicates that if Butler decides to leave Miami, the 76ers are prepared to offer him an extension with a salary up to the league maximum.

While it’s uncertain whether Butler would entertain a return to the 76ers and a reunion with Joel Embiid, such a move could enhance his championship prospects in the twilight of his career and potentially boost his earnings for his remaining years in the NBA.
