Solo Female Travel Advice
The idea of a solo trip might sound scary and daunting, but what lies beyond the fear is a journey of self-discovery, growth, and empowerment. With the world as your playground and your own intuition as your guide, solo travel offers an unparalleled experience unlike any other.
I have always wanted to travel but while waiting on friends I realized I will never go anywhere unless I get over the initial fear of going alone.
I suggest as a start before taking the plunge of that solo trip, take yourself to a restaurant and enjoy a nice meal alone. That’s my first solo female travel advice to you! Familiarize yourself with your independent ‘self’.
Here are some dos and don’ts to consider and why I highly recommend everyone take at least one solo trip in their lifetime.
Solo Female Travel Advice [The Dos]
1. Embrace Independence
Solo travel is your opportunity to fully embrace independence. You have the freedom to create your own itinerary, change plans on a whim, and immerse yourself in experiences that truly resonate with you. You don’t have to follow anyone else’s plan but your own.
Take advantage of this freedom to discover what truly brings you joy!
2. Step Out of Your Comfort Zone
Solo travel pushes you out of your comfort zone in the best way possible. Whether it’s striking up a conversation with locals, trying new foods, or navigating unfamiliar streets, each moment will present an opportunity for personal growth and discovery. Embrace the discomfort and watch as it transforms into confidence.
3. Connect with Locals
One of the greatest joys of solo travel is the opportunity to connect with locals on a deeper level. Take the time to engage with the people you meet along the way, whether it’s sharing stories over a meal or learning about their culture and traditions. These connections often lead to unforgettable experiences and insights you wouldn’t find in a guidebook. And you will make unforgettable friendships along the way.
4. Stay Open-Minded
Approach solo travel with an open mind and a willingness to embrace the unexpected.
Be open to trying new things, exploring hidden destinations. Some of the most memorable experiences often come from moments you never could have anticipated.
Solo Female Travel Advice [The Don’ts]
1. Don’t Be Afraid to Ask for Help
While solo travel encourages independence, it’s important to remember that it’s okay to ask for help when needed. Whether you’re lost, in need of recommendations, or simply looking for someone to chat with, don’t hesitate to reach out to locals or fellow travelers. Most people are more than happy to lend a helping hand. You never know where these encounters can lead you.
2. Don’t Say No to Your Gut Feeling
Of course follow safety precautions as you would everywhere else. Don’t go down dark roads, don’t walk around alone at night.
If your intuition tells you something doesn’t seem right, then follow your gut.
3. Don’t Over-plan
While it’s essential to have a rough itinerary in place, avoid over-planning every minute of your trip. Leave room for spontaneous things and be flexible, allow yourself the freedom to follow your instincts and pursue unexpected opportunities. Some of the best adventures come from steering off the beaten path.
4. Don’t Compare Yourself to Others
Solo travel is a personal journey, and it’s important not to compare your experience to that of others. Embrace your unique path and focus on the moments that resonate with you.
Remember, there’s no right or wrong way to travel solo, it’s all about what feels right for you.
5. Don’t Let Fear Hold You Back
Fear can be a natural response to the unknown, but don’t let it hold you back from experiencing the world on your own terms. Embrace the challenges and uncertainties that come with solo travel, knowing that each obstacle you overcome will only strengthen your confidence.
Why Everyone Should Take at Least One Solo Trip
Solo travel isn’t just about seeing new places ,it’s about discovering who you are and what you’re capable of. It’s about embracing the unknown, stepping out of your comfort zone, and connecting with people and cultures in ways you never thought possible.
Whether you’re embarking on a week-long adventure or a month-long journey, solo travel has the power to transform your life in ways you never imagined. So pack your bags, trust your instincts, and embark on the adventure of a lifetime – you won’t regret it.
A short story about one of my solo trips
My very first solo travel experience was to Nassau Bahamas. I remember being absolutely terrified and at the same time beyond excited .
Upon arriving in Nassau, I immediately felt the island’s vibrant energy. After settling down into my room at a hostel, I decided to go out and explore the nearby area.
The next day I visited Pig Beach, where I swam with the famous friendly pigs. Their playful nature was infectious, and I couldn’t stop laughing. Sharing this unique experience with strangers who quickly felt like friends was a highlight of my trip.
I connected with a group of like-minded travelers from my hostel and spent the rest of my trip exploring the island with them.
Solo traveling in the Bahamas was a blend of relaxation and discovery. It reminded me of the joy in exploring new places on my own terms and the connections made along the way. As I watched the sun set over the ocean on my last night, I knew this trip would forever remain my favorite memory.
Here are some pictures from my solo travel trips! Hope they lure you into embarking on a solo trip very soon!

“My name is Vicky. I was born in Bosnia but I live in Canada. My passion for traveling started at a young age when my family had to move around a lot due to the war. Although for years I tried to travel, I waited around for my friends so it never happened. Until one day when I decided that I would see the world even if it was by myself.”
