UFC 302 Payout: How Much Is Islam Makhachev and Dustin Poirier Getting Paid? Main Event Estimated Salaries

The fighting community has been eagerly waiting for the UFC 302. And the most anticipated fight of the event? Of course, it is the bout between Islam Makhachev and Dustin Poirier, where Poirier would try to snatch the championship belt for one final time and Makhachev would defend his title for the third time. With a single loss in his MMA career, Makhachev is definitely looking to claim victory and extend his winning streak.

On the other hand, ‘The Diamond’ is going to give it his all and try to end his fighting career on a high note. Without a doubt, the excitement among the fans for the fight is pretty high. But have you wondered how much money are the fighters going to pocket out of the fight?

Being the champion sure comes with perks. One of those perks is always being featured in the main event to defend one’s title. And with that comes a hefty paycheck. Without a doubt, the current UFC lightweight champion is going to pocket a huge sum from his next battle at UFC 302.

As per the reports, the Dagestani mixed martial artist is about to get $1 million just to show up for the fight. Apart from the guaranteed cash, he is also expected to earn about $42 thousand from sponsorships and endorsements. But even though it is quite a huge amount of money, that’s not the total sum.

If Makhachev succeeds in defending his title against Poirier, he will receive a bonus, which is expected to be around $100 thousand, which will total his win to $1.52 million. However, that’s only if he wins the battle. In case he fails to defend his belt, he would still get a payout of $1.42 million. And that excludes the PPV payout. Makhachev can be expected to take away somewhere around $2 million.

Back in March, when the fight between Makhachev and Poirier was yet to be declared, Daniel Cormier had asked Dana White to book the fight. The former heavyweight champion claimed that it would be a ‘massive’ fight.  But for Makhachev, it would be the highest payday ever. DC said, “It really will be the biggest fight that Islam Makhachev has ever had in terms of the box office.” Now, it seems like Cormier wasn’t wrong.

The former interim champion, undeniably, is not going to get the amount that the lightweight champ will get. However, he is not too far behind in the payouts. As per the reports, Poirier is expected to get $932 thousand just to show up for the fight. The guaranteed payout for him is expected to be around $800 thousand and brand endorsements will sum up to $32 thousand.

Needless to say, the Cajun mixed martial artist has the chance to turn his paycheck into a bit more than a million dollars with a win bonus of $100 thousand. Adding the PPV paycheck to that, Poirier has the chance to earn a sum that can go beyond $1.5 million. Given the fact that this would be his final attempt to claim the UFC LW championship belt, ‘The Diamond’ is going to give Makhachev pretty tough competition. But only time can tell who would pocket the $100 thousand bonus.

Who do you think is going to win the title fight at UFC 302? Will it be Islam Makhachev with his Dagestani training? Or will it be Dustin Poirier with his strong guillotine choke? Let us know in the comments down below.
