The International Hockey Federation (FIH) made the announcement on June 11, 2025. The decision to choose India as the host nation for this prestigious tournament underscores the country’s growing importance in international hockey. The tournament is scheduled to take place in December 2025.
This will be the fourth time that India will host the Junior Hockey World Cup. The country has previously hosted the tournament in New Delhi, Lucknow, and Bhubaneswar. The host city for the 2025 edition will be announced at a later date.
The last edition of the Men’s Junior World Cup was held in 2023 in Malaysia and was won by Germany. India had a commendable performance in the tournament, reaching the semi-finals before losing to Germany and eventually finishing in fourth place.
India has a successful track record in the Junior World Cup, having won the tournament twice. The first victory came in Australia in 2001, and the second was on home soil in 2016. The country will be hoping to replicate this success in 2025.
The decision to expand the tournament to include 24 teams is part of the FIH’s strategy to give more opportunities to a larger and more diverse number of national associations. FIH President Dato Tayyab Ikram expressed his happiness about the expansion of the tournament and the selection of India as the host nation. He stated, “Giving more opportunities to play to a larger and more diverse number of national associations is one of the key pillars of our empowerment and engagement strategy.”
Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey also expressed his gratitude to the FIH for entrusting India with the tournament. He said, “This prestigious tournament highlights India’s growing importance in international hockey and shows our dedication to developing the sport for future generations.”
