Man in skullcap attacking Hindus of Ayodhya in viral video is not a Muslim; his name is Dhirendra Raghav

A video has gone viral on social media, showing a man wearing a skullcap criticizing Hindus in Ayodhya for not voting for the BJP in the constituency of Faizabad in Uttar Pradesh.

BJP’s Faizabad candidate Lallu Singh’s loss to Samajwadi Party’s Awadesh Prasad by more than 50,000 votes has been a major talking point since Lok Sabha election results 2024 were declared on June 4.

In the video, the man, donning a kurta and a skullcap, can be seen addressing the Hindus of Ayodhya as ‘hypocrites’, before claiming that they are saved this time because of ‘Ram Bhakt Hindus’, who have stopped Congress from forming the government. He then goes on to say that had this not been the case, ‘Rahul (Gandhi) would have provided us with reservations. Instead of the temple, the mosque would have been rebuilt in Ayodhya.’

He also claims that if any politician built a mosque in the same way that the Ram Mandir was built in Ayodhya, they would get unconditional support from Muslims and win over 450-500 seats. Lastly, he brands the Hindus of Ayodhya as ‘kaafir'(s) and expresses his disgust over their inability to vote for the BJP despite everything that Modi did for them.

An X user (@R9Bhau) posted the viral video on June 5. It has amassed more than 7 Lakh views, and almost 22,000 likes.

Several other users on X like @Modified_Hindu9 and @rs_rajender have shared the video.

Fact Check

We noticed an Instagram watermark on the viral video, which credits the clip to @Dhirendra_Raghav_79.

On searching for the profile on Instagram, we found that the verified account of Dhirendra Raghav has more than 48,000 followers. In his profile bio, Raghav describes himself as an ‘Artist’. Scrolling through his timeline, we found that he had made several other videos in support of the BJP. In the videos, he dons different avatars.

However, the viral video, in which he is seen taking the guise of a Muslim man by wearing a skull cap, has however been deleted.

We also found his Facebook profile. Here, too, he describes himself as an artist and also mentions that he is a resident of Agra, Uttar Pradesh.

Hence, it is clear that the man attacking Hindus of Ayodhya and criticising them for failing to vote for the BJP is not a Muslim, but a content creator named Dhirendra Raghav, who plays different characters in videos that he uploads on his social media platforms.

We also noted that taking cognizance of the communal nature of the video, an Agra court had sent Dhirendra Raghav to judicial custody, charging him with the malicious intent of inciting communal hatred.
