AUS vs NAM | Adam Zampa’s four-fer alongside Travis Head special dismantles Namibia

In a commanding display, Australia cruised to a nine-wicket victory over Namibia. Despite Gerhard Erasmus’ valiant 36 runs, Namibia stumbled to a mere 72 in 17 overs whereas Australia swiftly chased down the target, reaching 74/1 in just 5.4 overs and securing their berth in the Super 8.

‌Namibia faced a formidable challenge in Antigua as Australia’s skipper Mitchell Marsh won the toss and elected to field first. The Namibian innings began disastrously, losing Nikolaas Davin, Jan Frylinck, and Michael van Lingen within the powerplay, leaving the scoreboard at a precarious 17/3 after six overs. The situation worsened when Nathan Ellis dismissed JJ Smit in the eighth over, followed by Adam Zampa’s four-wicket haul, leaving Namibia reeling at 51/8 in 14 overs. Amidst the collapse, skipper Gerhard Erasmus offered some resistance with a gritty 36 off 43 deliveries. However, the dominant Australian bowlers ultimately bundled Namibia out for a mere 72 runs in 17 overs.

The 2021 champions had a roaring start with David Warner and Travis Head swiftly propelling the score to 21/0 in just 1.3 overs. Despite Warner’s early dismissal by David Wiese, Head and Mitchell Marsh forged a formidable partnership, guiding Australia to 60/1 within five overs. With victory almost assured, the Aussies needed just 13 runs to seal the match. Ultimately, Australia clinched the contest by nine wickets in a mere 5.4 overs, securing their passage to the Super 8 stage.
