Civet Cat Found Dead, 5 Cubs Taken to Zoo

Hyderabad: An Asian palm civet was found dead near Domalapenta range of the Amrabad forest. Officials said that it died of a snake to its leg. Its five cubs have been transferred to the Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad, where adequate care can be provided under the supervision of veterinarians. Amrabad does not have an in-house rehabilitation centre.

The Asian palm civet which lives in south and southeast Asia can be spotted in tropical jungles and rain forests. It is usually the size of the cat —between 43 cm and 71 cm long and weighing 1.4 kg to 4.5 kg —and appears like cat. It can live up to 20 years.

A wildlife official told Deccan Chronicle: “Our team was inspecting the forests and found the palm civet which was dead.”
