‌WI vs AFG | Twitter reacts to power-packed Pooran going berserk as Omarzai leaks 36 runs

It is important to rectify one’s errors to succeed in a particular situation. Azmatullah Omarzai failed to do so and leaked 36 runs in an over including extras as Nicholas Pooran went berserk as Afghanistan and West Indies squared off in the last group stage match of the T20 World Cup 2024.

Having already qualified for the Super Eight stages, Afghanistan captain, Rashid Khan made no changes to his playing XI as he opted to field first against the hosts. They did get a breakthrough in the start before Johnson Charles and Nicholas Pooran intended to rebuild an aggressive momentum inside the powerplay. In their approach, Azmatullah Omarzai was taken to the cleaners as Pooran smashed 36 runs off him in an over.

With West Indies score reading 37/1 halfway through the powerplay, Rashid summoned Omarzai, who outdid Brandon King in the second over. An outside edge six off the first ball paved the way for a no-ball four and five wides. Subsequently, a dot ball followed before the last four legitimate deliveries of the over-extracted 20 runs including a couple of sixes over deep mid-wicket and long off. Eventually, the scoreboard skyrocketed to 92/1 after the powerplay, the highest-ever in a T20 World Cup. This also the second instance where an over leaked 36 runs in T20 World Cup after Yuvraj Singh smashed six consecutive sixes against Stuart Broad in 2007.

Seeing audacious Pooran doing what he does, the Twitterverse erupted.
