Virat Kohli’s childhood cricket coach Rajkumar Sharma commented on the star player announcing his retirement from T20 internationals following India’s win in the final of the 2024 T20 World Cup.
India took on South Africa in the World Cup final. While batting first, the Men in Blue lost some early wickets. This prompted Virat Kohli, who had not performed well throughout the tournament, to stabilize the inning.
His 76-off-59 took India to 176 runs in 20 overs. In response, South Africa lost early wickets as well but great innings by Quinton de Kock and Heinrich Klaasen took their side to needing just 30 runs in as many balls.
Then came one of the greatest comebacks in World Cup cricket, as a fantastic pace bowling display by Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and Hardik Pandya led India to a seven-run victory.

For his fine 76-run inning, Virat Kohli was named the Player of the Match as India won their first ICC trophy in 11 years.
In the post-match presentation, Virat announced his retirement from T20Is, saying:
“This is my last T20 game playing for India, my last World Cup I was going to play. I wanted to make the most of it. And this was our aim. We wanted to win an ICC tournament; we wanted to lift the cup. As I said, it was the occasion that helped me put my head down and respect the situation rather than trying to force things out there and play the game my team wanted me to play.”
After the 35-year-old announced his retirement from the format, millions of fans from across the world wished one of the greatest modern batters well.
Virat Kohli Childhood Coach Comments On Retirement
One of the people who wished Kohli and commented on his retirement was his childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma. In a discussion with Star Sports, Sharma had this to say:
“It is a very big decision that Virat has taken, that too at such a big moment where India has won the T20 World Cup. He also won the Player of the Match in the final which is the highest point for any player. I appreciate his decision as he wants the youngsters to get more chances and so it is a good decision.”

Having retired from T20Is, Virat Kohli will still represent India in ODIs and Test matches. He will also most likely continue to play T20 cricket in the IPL each year.
